Oat the Goat - Interactive Story

Wow! We love this work by Assembly and FCB New Zealand for the New Zealand Ministry of Education. It tells the story of Oat the Goat and his travels, teaching young children to understand how their actions can affect the people around them. With a beautiful animation style, immersive sound design and a great story - this is truly digital work of the highest order. We do suggest you spend some time checking out the site and seeing just how far digital work can be taken.

You can read Oat the Goat's story here (in English or in Maori!).

Painted Earth

We love this project! Moniker is a digital design studio in the Netherlands and for one of their recent projects they created 'Painted Earth'. This allows people to paint using the earth as a canvas. By logging into their phone and walking around, their movement becomes brush strokes - walk faster and the paint makes dots, stand in one space and it pools and drips. But it doesn't end there - up to 200 people can be in one place and 'paint' at the same time.

Amazing!

Yahoo! Japan - The History of the Internet

What an undertaking! This site by Yahoo! Japan tells the entire history of the Internet, using a scrollable 3D modelled tower - with interactive information at each step of the way. We've included a few screenshots here for you to understand the navigation of the site and how it works, but it really has to be seen to be believed! Visit the site here.

Maison Riviera - Website

What a beautiful way to bring dairy and yoghurt products to life online! This site for Maison Riviera is a beautifully art-directed, cleverly designed example of how designing for web can start to feel more tactile. Such great work from Montreal-based interactive agency Deux Huit Huit. With loads of smart scrolling effects and beautiful photography, this website is a shining example of how you can bring FMCG products to life in a rich, exciting way for consumers. We love it!

Patagonia - The Blue Heart of Europe

Patagonia is a brand known for taking responsibility. They've made doing good and giving back a part of the brand from the very beginning. Here, we're sharing one of their latest projects: The Blue Heart of Europe - a website which raises awareness about Europe's threatened rivers and gives people something to rally behind and support. We love the work done by Upperquad on this! Not only is this a great site to interact with and use, it's a really interesting way that Patagonia is both doing good and representing itself as a brand. On every page, you see the Patagonia logo, but instead of throwing it in your face or trying to shove product down your threat, it doesn't try too hard. And this is what makes Patagonia such a beloved brand throughout the world.

Good work for a good cause - what could be better?

Niika - Website

Niika is a digital design and branding studio from Australia with a website that shows off their talents to great effect! This website by Studio Details Inc is a great example of the incredible breadth of opportunities for design in the multimedia space. This site is for Blues Design, a product design company in Japan and we just love the entire thing. From the incredible menu navigation mechanic through to the actual site itself and the music and sounds they chose for it, this is really top notch. Take a look at the site here.

YouTube Rewind 2017 Website

Wow! What a great piece of multimedia design by Hook. This website, which was designed for YouTube Rewind 2017 (A kind of highlight video of all of YouTube's best content for the year) has a great navigation design, which explains all of the memes, content and ridiculousness that made the year what it was. You can check it out here.

Full marks if you get all the references!

Curious Critters Club - Website

So much fun! This AR game from Yoozoo, a New Zealand based studio, allows children to search the globe and discover interesting animals - teaching them about the importance of conservation. From start to finish - this is such an incredible multimedia project. The illustration is top notch, the way the app works is incredible and most importantly - it's for a good cause.

We do suggest you take the time to check this out on the site, download the apps and enjoy it. It really is so good!

GROWx - Website
screen-shot-2017-12-23-at-11-44-06.png

Such a gorgeous, clean website for a great cause. GROWx is an urban farming start up based in Amsterdam. We love the use of photography, typography and scrolling effects. It's really interesting to see how traditional design principles can start applying to websites - and the more we see, the more we love!

Ninja Tune - Website

We really love this minimalist site for Ninja Tune. As an independent record label, they focus on high quality music they really believe in. To mark 2017's releases they created this really fun website, which marks each release for the year. Not only is the site a beauty to behold, the music is great too. Who knows, you might even find something you like!

10x17 - Website

What a great project! This website, 10x17, has artists and designers reinterpret the album cover designs of their favourite albums of 2017. The perfect way to combine multimedia design, illustration and design!

We do suggest you take the time to browse through the site and see if any of your favourite albums from the year got the reinterpretation treatment!

Resn's Little Helper - Website
screen-shot-2017-12-23-at-11-03-50.png

Resn is a digital agency based in New Zealand with some serious talent! We're sharing a Christmas website they made today, which tells a great story with some really smart use of multimedia design. Yes, it is a little irreverent and it features an elf playing 'Last Christmas' very badly on a flute, but it is so much fun. We do suggest you take the time to check it out!

The website is available here.

The Artery is a creative company that does visual effects, design and film and TV, amongst other creative outputs. Their site is something really special to behold - just what you'd expect from a company that does such amazing work for their clients. With an innovative grid / menu system that surfaces content in smart ways, through to gorgeous 3D graphics - this is a website that really pushes web design into a new space.

We love it!

Check out their site here.

EIDOS website

EIDOS is a multimedia project by Berlin-based photographer Tobias Faisst in collaboration with Transform, which aims to relook at how photography is represented in the modern era and the interactions between photography and computer-generated imagery. It's so refreshing to spend some time looking at a site like this, which deliberately aims to push the boundaries of web design into a new space. Whether you 'like' it or not is irrelevant, this is really about pushing the entire medium forward and seeing what can be done.

Have a look at the site and see what you think!

Adult Swim Singles - Website
screen-shot-2017-10-06-at-16-09-09.png

Every year the Adult Swim channel releases a number of singles in collaboration with up and coming indie bands and musicians. This year is no different, except they come with an awesome accompanying site. With a number of 3D shapes that get more and more complex as you go further through the 'desert' of singles - this site offers a more engaging online music experience than many of the other projects we've looked at in the past.

If you love cool graphics, cool music and cool music - look no further!
